Yoga Beings has been developed for the little 'uns, aged 4 to 11 years old. It uses a combination of traditional yoga postures, sequences and breath work combined with story telling, play and fantasy to really get the kids into it. It is an excellent way of delivering the yoga because the young person gets the experience of what yoga is like for grown-ups but also can begin to use it as part of their play repetoire. The class ends with a beautiful guided relaxation and visualisation (or yogic nap).
Recently there has been a lot of press about the benefits of yoga to young people. Briefly however, yoga:
- Increases ability to identify body parts and their locations
- Improves coordination and balance
- Improves concentration and calmness
- Increases flexibility
- Improves general health
During the class we do an hour of yoga and end the class with a yogic nap, followed by a yogic snack. We are also creating a display for the studio which involves colouring in mandalas.
Please bring a yogic snack to share and a bottle of water. For our yogic nap you may want to bring your favourite blanket or toy.
